Supporting logistics transformation for the first all-electric Volvo

Optimum goods flows get XC40 Recharge off to a flying start

By 2025, Volvo Cars aims to reduce its CO2 footprint per car by 40 percent. So the car-maker is putting maximum focus on electric and hybrid. Our Consultancy Services Team supported the Ghent factory in starting up a new production line for the all-electric XC40 Recharge – the first all-electric Volvo.

Our on-site engineer, along with his temporary colleagues from ‘Plant Supply Chain Engineering’, optimised the new goods flow to the assembly line.

During the intensive preparatory period, every step in the supply chain was carefully coordinated: the right packaging for each item, an uninterrupted flow from the trailer to the line with no intermediate stocks, combined transport by train for different packaging types, and cyclical delivery in accordance with a standard model. Every detail was crucial – the slightest variation would disrupt the process.

Meanwhile, production of the Volvo XC40 Recharge is running smoothly, and the orders keep coming in.
